Save Big with Restaurant.com
If you ever eat out somewhere besides a major nationwide chain, I recommend checking to see if your desired dining location is on Restaurant.com. Doing so could save you at least $15, even if you only use this service once. (But usually you’ll save even more…keep reading!)
How It Works
Restaurant.com allows you to purchase gift certificates to local restaurants for at least 60% off. If you are purchasing a gift certificate for the amount of $25.00 (and only paying $10 or less), there is usually a requirement that you spend at least $35.00 on the meal. In other words, you’d have to pay at least $10 + $5 (or other gift certificate amount) for $35.00 worth of food. Not bad for a sit-down restaurant!
Save Even More!
But usually, for at least part of the month, you can save bigger: when they come out with a coupon code. Currently, the code is DISCOVER, and you get 50% off, SAVE, and you get 70% off! which means you’re getting a $25 certificate for just $5 $3! You may have noticed the little box on my sidebar that says “current restaurant.com code.” This is a space where I’ll feature the current restaurant.com coupon code. Most likely I’ll share it in a post, as well, so you can be update as to when this happens.
Just a few of the locations in Greenville that you can use a restaurant.com certificate:
- The Open Hearth
- The Rio Grille (stay tuned for a review of this!)
- Portofino’s Italian Restaurant
- City Range Steakhouse Grill
- Brick City Grill
- Corona’s
How to Do It
1. Go to Restaurant.com.
2. Find a restaurant of your choosing.
3. Purchase certificate. (Use the code: SAVE right now.)
4. Print out certificate and take to restaurant.
Additional notes: Certificates are usually good for one year. They have a unique code that the restaurant calls in and enters to ensure that it is only used once. Gratuities may be higher when certificates are used than the normally suggested percentage (this will be included in the information when you order the certificate). At the beginning of each month, new restaurants are added with a limited number of certificates; but at the end of the month, there is usually some sort of percent off discount because there are fewer choices left to choose from.
That what work’s for me!

My experience has been that I actually tend to spend more and eat too much when I get one of these. It sometimes works for a group of people to get something (say 3 people), but then you have deal with splitting up the bill which can be challenging. But, if it works for you, then go for it. I know some of my best friends really like restaurant.com.
