Saving with Reusable Shopping Bags
From Cherith:
Bi-lo credits you 5 cents per bag that you bring
yourself! I had started trying to use reusable bags, and happened to take them
into Bi-Lo on Wade Hampton (Taylors), and got credit for each one I brought (and
I didn’t even need to use them all.) Just thought you might want to share that
tid-bit w/ your readers. I haven’t had it happen anywhere else (but maybe we
should challenge the other stores to do the same. :))
Does anyone else know of any other area stores that are doing this? I don’t have any of the “new” resuable/green bags, but I do have a few tote bags that could probably be used as such. Most stores carry these for 99 cents, so after just 20 trips to Bi-Lo, you’d see a return on your investment.
And if you’re looking for a way to get a free reusable tote bag, you can do so with this deal from Target:
Use any 8½ x11″ or larger envelope. Be sure to affix postage and include your return address.
Send your clean, used Target shopping bags (at least 5) to:
TerraCycle
121 New York Avenue
Trenton, NJ 08638
Must be postmarked by November 30, 2008. Coupons will arrive in early January 2009.
(Or, if you have a copy of the latest People magazine, you can get it postage-free. More details regarding this offer here.)

I think maybe you can even just bring plastic bags–I think the idea is to just not keep using more plastic bags, but re-using something. But I’m not completely sure on this.
Last week Publix had in their savings booklet 2 free bags w/ the purchase of 1 pack of re-chargeable batteries ($10–same price as Wal-mart), so I go 2 from them. Maybe they’re still offering something like that!

I worked at a grocery store for a while and we would credit any bag. (like Cherith said) People would bring in old plastic bags and paper bags.

I work at Bi-Lo in Greer. Just make sure that when you bring in your bags, you tell your cashier that you would like the bag credit.
