The Story Behind the Site
Due to various circumstances, our family (2 adults at the time) went through a 6 month period of living off of an average income of $150 a week. We went through that time without accumulating debt or borrowing money. There were certainly some very hard times (like when our heater broke and resulted in electricity bills totaling over $600(!) and we had to go the next few winter months without heat), but it a period in our lives for which we are very thankful for today.
Although I had considered myself frugal before, it was during our time of financial hardship that I entered into a whole new world of saving. Not only was I able to have enough to put food in on the table, but I was able to stock our pantry and cupboards during that time. Through careful couponing and super deals, we were also able to stock up on thousands of diapers for our daughter…and never had to pay money for any of them! And we’re still using them today.
On somewhat of a whim and somewhat necessity, I also decided to see if we could go from a $35 weekly budget to a $20 budget for our groceries and household items. Not only were we able to meet that goal, but there have also been many weeks where we haven’t had to spend anything at all (because our cupboards have been so stocked already!).
I eventually started sharing some of the deals and savings on our family blog. After several months, I began to feel that was becoming the focus of our blog and created this site in hopes that I can share even more.
Beyond Saving Money
Although I get excited about saving money, I know that it can only serve as a means to an end. And that end is not becoming rich. The end that I am focusing on is bringing glory to my Heavenly Father (which at some times may actually mean living without coupons or special deals). Money, food, and material goods are only temporary; but my soul is eternal.
One day I will stand before God, and I must be righteous in order to spend an eternity with Him in heaven. Yet the Bible says my righteousness is as filthy rags! Not only do I not meet the requirements, but I must also pay the wages for my unrighteousness, which is death! How I rejoice that while I was yet a sinner, God in His rich mercy sent His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ to pay the penalty for my sin. I have believed that Jesus died for my sin and has paid my debt. I trust only in Him for my salvation; no righteous deed that I attempt–no prayer, no ritual, or any good works–can obtain this for me. Now when I stand before God, He will not see my attempts at righteousness, but He will see the righteousness of His own Son! If you are wondering about this and would like to learn more, please feel free to contact me, or to look at this booklet online.
God has chosen the foolish things of the world to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to shame the things which are strong.
