Saving in Greenville http://savingingreenville.com Wed, 19 Jan 2011 20:47:31 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=4.4.10 Greenville Daily Deal Sites http://savingingreenville.com/2011/01/19/greenville-daily-deal-sites/ http://savingingreenville.com/2011/01/19/greenville-daily-deal-sites/#comments Wed, 19 Jan 2011 20:45:09 +0000 http://savingingreenville.com/?p=1189 Here are some deals that are worth putting a new post on this site:

If you haven’t heard of daily deals sites, they are basically sites that sell services or products at a deeply discounted price (usually 50% off or more). They are growing in popularity on the internet these days, but now there are several that have even come to Greenville, varying deal offers from local interest only to deals that are available to buyers no matter where they live.

Living Social

Well, today’s deal at LivingSocial is a SUPER HOT deal:

You can buy a $20 Amazon.com certificate for just $10 (Just sign up at the link here; apparently under the Washington, DC, area if you can’t see it under Greenville, SC). This deal ends at midnight, EST, but if you  read this after that time is passed, make sure to check out LivingSocial for the local Greenville deals. Another deal for Greenville, SC area today is a 2-hour(!) massage for just $69, as opposed to the normal price of $140. Get 3 friends to sign up for the same deal using the special link, and the deal is free for you!

Groupon

Groupon is another great daily deal site, and one of my favorites. An added bonus is that from time to time they offer free “credit,” plus for every friend you refer that makes a purchase, you get a $10 credit…which goes a long way with Groupon. A great way to share and get credits is on Facebook…you don’t even need a blog! Today’s deal on Groupon is for $30 worth of footwear for just $15, and there is a side deal for $325 worth of chiropractic services at Cherrydale Family Chiropractic for just $20. (And if you have credit already, these deals are even better!)

Eversave

Yet another daily deal site is Eversave. You get $2 credit for signing up, and while I have yet to see a deal that is specifically Greenville only, they do have some pretty amazing deals from time to time (like free organic toys a few months back)! Today’s save is $30 worth of credit for $15 to Frecklebox.com, a company offering personalized children’s products.

There are lots of other sites like this, but these are 3 of my favorites. What are yours, if you have them?

Thanks for your patience with Saving in Greenville!

____

Oh, and Greenville friends, did you know we recently got a Trader Joe’s? They have some great deals and amazing foods, but I’m afraid I’d spend way too much if it was any closer to my house. :)

In full disclosure, yes, I will get credit if you sign up under my link and make a purchase. But I also want to be clear that I have spent money at each of these deal sites and can vouch that they truly are legitimate. While extra credit is great, these deals are great enough in and of themselves that they are worth posting here…even if you don’t use my sign-up link! :)

HOT: Test Drive Offer http://savingingreenville.com/2010/02/11/hot-test-drive-offer/ http://savingingreenville.com/2010/02/11/hot-test-drive-offer/#comments Thu, 11 Feb 2010 01:42:08 +0000 http://savingingreenville.com/?p=1183

Test drive the all-new 2011 Kia Sorento between February 8, 2010, and March 15, 2010, and Kia will thank you with a $25 prepaid card. Go here to fill out the online form to get your e-certificate (which you’ll then take into the dealer when you test drive).

Test drives must be taken by March 15, 2010.

If you plan to do this, I recommend printing out your e-certificate as soon as possible. The site mentions that there is a limited number of e-certificates available, and once word gets out you can be sure they’ll go quickly! We have personally participated in test drive offers before, and they are a great way to enjoy the feel of a nice, new vehicle, and get paid for it. And hey, if you’re in the market for a new car and want to pay for a new price, maybe this will be your new vehicle! No, I’m not paid to say any of this… :)

Free 2-Week Access to Over 11,000 Christian Media Files http://savingingreenville.com/2010/02/05/free-2-week-access-to-over-11000-christian-media-files/ Fri, 05 Feb 2010 06:38:02 +0000 http://savingingreenville.com/?p=1177

Sharefaith is a company that provides churches with access to over 11,000 photo, video, PowerPoint, and other media files. They provide templates for sermon slideshows, church bulletins, brochures, posters, etc… However, if you are a blogger, you might also consider using this company for your blog images if pictures are important to you.

They offer a 2-week free trial membership, during which time you can access their library of current media files (new media is added as holidays and seasons come along). However, their year-long membership is fairly inexpensive (especially when you consider not having to take the time to design or pay someone else to do so!), for $85 (the current discount) for an entire year of access to all files. Or for the super frugal, you can just enter their current giveaway (ending Feb 6) for a free year’s membership and hope to win. :)

I also recently learned about their sister site, ShareHolidays, which allows you to download unlimited templates (with membership) for greeting cards. This would be a super idea if you send out personalized cards that you want to look snazzy.

7 Packs of Diapers for $3 a Pack! http://savingingreenville.com/2010/02/05/7-packs-of-diapers-for-3-a-pack/ Fri, 05 Feb 2010 06:02:14 +0000 http://savingingreenville.com/?p=1172

Right before our second daughter was born in November, I came to the sudden realization that I had no disposable diapers for her!! :) Since she was born at home, we didn’t get sent home from the hospital with freebies, and she wouldn’t be quite ready for cloth. Thankfully, I got a great deal on some newborn diapers from Diapers.com, and the diapers arrived 2 days later…with free shipping. Well, here is a deal that is even better than the one I got:

Here’s how to get 7 packs of Luvs for $3 each:

  • Register with Diapers.com for a new account (this deal is only this rate for new accounts, but if you already have an account, you should be able to open another under a spouse’s name or another e-mail address).
  • Add 7 packs Luvs Diapers (Jumbo) to your cart at $6.99.
  • Add a a filler item (Pampers Travel wipes are $1.99) to get free shipping (must be $50 total before discounts).
        • OR, if you have a tiny newborn who will be in that size for a while, add 8 packs of size newborn. Newborn size is only $6.49/pack for a total of $51.88 before discounts).
  • Use the promo code SIGDIAPER at checkout to receive $10 off your order.
  • Your out of pocket cost will be $40.92 for 7 packs of diapers + wipes.
  • Print and submit this mail-in rebate and submit within four week to receive $14.97 back.
  • Get an additional $5+ back. Earn $5 for a first time sign up and shopping through Ebates or ShoptatHome. If you’ve already signed up, shopping through ShopAtHome will earn 1.5% cashback or Ebates will earn 1% cashback.

After you receive your MIR, the cost for 7 packs of diapers and the travel case of wipes will be $25.95! If it’s your first time to sign up with ShopAtHome or Ebates, then the total is $20.95, or 2.99 a pack + wipes!

The free shipping on orders over $49 and $10 off with code SIGDIAPER will actually work on any order. As far as disposables go, I generally prefer Pampers; however, I got a free Luv’s diaper in the mail this past week, and it worked great! I am putting in my order for 7 packs of Luv’s, too!

Here’s a great deal for the Greenville readers. Dickey’s BBQ (right before Taylors Target on W. Hampton) has Pulled Pork BBQ Sandwiches for just $1 every Monday through February 28, 2010. Eat in, and you can also get free deli pickles and free ice cream! My family ate there last week, and it was quite yummy! They also gave us our water in plastic souvenir cups. Nice.

Thanks, Bethany L., for mentioning this on FB.

Taking a Break http://savingingreenville.com/2009/07/21/taking-a-break/ http://savingingreenville.com/2009/07/21/taking-a-break/#comments Tue, 21 Jul 2009 20:25:29 +0000 http://savingingreenville.com/?p=1160

Thanks for you patience with lack of posts! I have many, many posts and series I’ve been wanting to post on and some I’ve even already written, but for now I need to say no. I’ll be taking a break from Saving in Greenville through the end of August. At that point, I’ll come back and re-evaluate keeping up this site.

In case you’ve been curious… :)

  • We did turn on our air conditioner in June. Electric bill doubled, but still not too bad, as it was quite low before. Once we turned it on, I was amazed at how much energy I still had in the afternoons, when I had been quite hot and miserable before.
  • We bought our first pack of diapers! For $3.99, but we made it 17 months without having to pay for any. Right now we’re using BumGenius cloth diapers during the day and disposable at night and for traveling. (She’s also working hard to potty train herself, but we’ll wait one more month to work a little harder since we’ll be going through some major transitions in the next month.) We’ve used BumGenius occasionally since our daughter was a few months old (started out with only 2), but since I doubt I’ll be able to get lots of free diapers for our next daughter, I plan to actually invest in purchasing several more. I may also attempt to go do this. If you are wondering about “modern” cloth diapers, I highily recommend this brand!
  • We are still loosely operating on our $750 annual grocery budget; however, my records were on a computer that “died,” and I need to take time to go through the receipts again and calculate everything. For now, I’ve just been keeping our weekly average to around $15/week or less and saving receipts.

There are a lot of great deals going on right now, and I’ll just link to a few:

  • Free picture package (a rare thing for PP) from The Picture People (through July 25); also read about how to get portraits from The Picture People for less here, courtesy of my friend Kim.
  • 80% off at Restaurant.com with the code NAPKIN (through July 28)
  • Triple Coupons at Ingles (not the greatest coupon policy, but might still be some good deals)
  • I use these cloth Swiffer wipes and use and rewash them. (We also use cloth napkins (from Old Time Pottery) in place of paper, and rags in place of paper towels, most of the time.)
  • Swagbucks now offers Paypal as a prize option: 70 swagbucks gets $5 via Paypal. If you haven’t signed up yet, you can sign up here and earn 5 points just for joining by entering the code NEWBIE (through July 24). (Some other new prizes are cerificates to Bumkins (baby product/cloth diapers (!!)), restaurant.com certificates, iPods, and more…)

Deals in Greenville:

  • Take a Wal*Mart receipts to Checkers at the Wade Hampton Taylors location, and get a free checkerburger (not sure how long this deal lasts).
  • My friends Ashley and Natalie are hosting a “Here We Grow Again” children’s consignment sale July 29-August 1. I will unfortunately be helping and bidding farewell to my husband that weekend, but check out the details here.
  • Yard sales are still going on! I have really found some great deals this year: $20 for a only $250 double jogging stroller, 50 cents for a $100 baby backpack carrier, $3 for a wooden kids desk/tool workbench, $3 for a $70 painting, and the list goes on, just in case you need inspiration. 😉 For the best info on Greenville area yard sales, I recommend checking Craigslist, especially Friday evening for an updated list of yard sale advertising. I also recommend visiting community/subdivision yard sales when possible, as they tend to have better prices and selection and many sales going on within walking distance. (Community sales have slowed down, but there should be a few more near the start of schools before the “season” totally ends.)
  • Free haircuts in Spartanburg.
  • Free ultrasounds for expectant mommies. :) (ongoing)

I may hop back on a few times to share a really good deal, so you may want to subscribe to this blog in order get updates rather than spending time checking back on the site. Feel free to use the forum to share deals, particularly those in Greenville. And, if you don’t already subscribe to/check Money Saving Mom and Southern Savers, I highly recommend doing so, the first for deals everywhere, and the latter for deals down “South,” particularly for Publix deals. Oh how I love shopping getting groceries for free at Publix (P.S. All the current ads/deals on right the sidebar are still going, and deals I’ve personally done and benefited from.)

If you have a site/blog about deals in Greenville, feel free to comment on this post or leave a note in the forum so local readers can keep up on deals.
